MYNMANNE HISTORY

Our Story
The Mynmanne Marine Association has grown from a small group of passionate anglers into one of the most recognized deep-sea fishing communities along the South African coastline. What began as a casual gathering of friends with a shared love for the ocean gradually evolved into an annual event that attracts sports fishermen, families, and ocean enthusiasts from across the country.
Early Beginnings
Established in the late 1970s, the association was created to promote ethical angling, strengthen community ties, and celebrate the unique marine environment of Sodwana Bay. Over the years, the event expanded as more teams, sponsors, and volunteers became part of the tradition, contributing to its warm, welcoming, and competitive spirit.
Growth of the Competition
As interest grew, the association introduced structured rules, safety measures, and dedicated roles—including organizers, safety officers, and beach control teams—to ensure that every participant enjoys a professional and memorable experience. Each year brought new milestones: more boats in the water, improved facilities, stronger partnerships, and the development of a loyal community who return annually for the camaraderie and adventure.
Commitment to Conservation
From the start, Mynmanne has emphasized responsible fishing practices. The association continues to work closely with local authorities, marine conservation groups, and NSRI partners to promote safety, sustainability, and respect for Sodwana Bay’s protected ecosystems.
Today
Today, the Mynmanne Marine Association stands as a proudly community-driven nonprofit event—built on tradition, passion, and a shared love for the sea. As the competition moves into the future, the association remains committed to creating unforgettable experiences for anglers of all ages while honouring the rich heritage that brought the event to life.
